Bio
Howard Brooks Woodworth is the second child of Newell and Ellen, and so was the big brother of Edith (our Bama Ford). Howard had the Woodworth spirit of travel and "immigration" of his ancestors, so he moved out to California and had registered to vote there by the time he is 22 in 1892.

This must have been a scary time for Howard as the Panic of 1893 hit, causing 500 bank failures, 15,000 businesses closures, and unemployment hitting 25% in some places. The Reading Railroad also went bankrupt. But Howard is of good stock and somehow survives this crisis.

With his light hair, blue eyes and tall stature, Howard found work as a "Car Driver." This must mean a Street Car, as records show he is a Street Car conductor in Pasadena in 1896. There he met a girl from Illinois named Daisy E. Liek, and they were married on February 16, 1898 when they were both 28 years old.

Soon the two had a family of five children. It would seem that Howard missed his family, based on the way he named his children:

1. The firstborn is named Newell Allen Woodworth, who by 20 years of age is a Bank Messenger
2. Laura born in 1902 becomes a Telephone Operator
3. Charles comes along in 1905 and at 15 is working as a "Helper to a private family"
4. Howard born in 1908 is 11 when he start working as a Caddy in a Golf Club (sounds like the family lived near the Rich and Famous in Pasadena)
5. Little Ella (Howard's mother's nickname too) is 8 in 1920 and the only child not working

Howard continues his career in the Railroad and becomes a Conductor. He dies suddenly at the age of 54 leaving his wife with 5 children age 12- 21. She first lives with her daughter Ella and then tries to live in her own. By 1940 she is back with Elle and her husband and two children. Daisy dies in 1944.
