Bio
Persis Meacham was born in Connecticut on May 7, 1804. She and her family must have joined the many other folks moving to the Western Reserve as she married her husband, Vernon Bates Palmer, in Ashtabula County Ohio when she was 17 years old!

Vernon, like just about every other guy, starts out in farming. They have a few children, the first of which is born in 1823, a year after the couple is married. This first girl is named Anna Bates who gets a sister Margaret the following year. Margaret dies sometime in her childhood. Emeline Persis Palmer is born in 1828. (She will go on to marry Newell Woodworth and merge the Woodworth Palmer lines of our family that eventually produce WKF1). They have their 4th little girl, Rubie in 1836. It looks like there will be no sons to help work the farm for Persis Palmer.

Persis remains busy and the family is doing well. In 1850 their property is valued at $5,600 which sounds pretty darn good! She seems to be a kindly person who "takes people in" when needed. In this same census year she and her husband have their youngest daughter Ruby, age 14, living with them. They also have their married daughter Anna and her two young boys in the house. Oh, and there is "Persis" younger brother Joel there, helping on the farm. Finally they have some 12-year old named Urbana Bartholomew living with them as well!

Her husband dies and then at 73 years old, Persis dies and is buried in Williamsfield. She must have been sick for a bit as in February of that year she makes out her will. She leaves all of her Parlor Furniture to Emeline (perhaps her favorite). Then Anna and Ruby are to divide equally her silverware. The proceeds of her estate remaining after all bills are paid are to be split evenly between Ruby and Persis. Perhaps Ana really got on her mother?s nerves!
