Bio
Ruby was the wife of Gilbert Palmer, who fought in the Revolutionary War and moved to Williamsfield, Ohio. All we know of her comes from the Barbour Collection of Stonington facts and from other records regarding her birth, marriage, and death. We believe she had 8 children in her life and certainly many of her decendants will be named in honor of her.
She was born in March of 1764 in Stonington CT, and was married to Gilbert Palmer in the same town when she was 20 years old. Records indicate she bore the following children:
Betsy Palmer 1785
Mary Palmer - 1786
Gilbert Palmer- 1788
Ana Palmer - 1790
Pheobe Palmer - 1793
Lucretia Palmer - 1799
Varnum Palmer - 1801
Benjamin Franklin Palmer - 1803
Her son Varnum would go on to have three girls: Ana, Emeline, and Ruby. Emeline becomes Emeline Brooks and has 4 children. Her oldest is Ellen and the youngest is George. Ellen marries, becoming Ellen Woodworth who eventually gives birth to Edith Woodworth. George has a daughter he names Ruby, first cousin to our Edith. While these two cousins are 12 years apart, they prove the bond of cousins can be very strong. Ruby goes to live with her older cousin Ellen up in Illinois after the tragic death of Edith's husband TA Ford.
