Bio
Wenceslaus emigrated from Bohemia in 1875 when he was just 23 years old. As I write this my oldest son is 23 and I cannot imagine him making such a big change but one never knows....
He arrives in Baltimore on May 29th aboard the "Branschweig" from Breman Germany. Traveling with him are his mother Barbara, who is 52, and and a woman named Filomena Schrom, age 25 - possibly his sister. Thekla Benesch, aged 21, is also on board and we can imagine she is already his sweetheart for she is traveling with no other family members...
She and Wenceslaus are married in Jefferson, Wisconsin on September 7th, 1875. Their first three children were born there too - Henry in 1876, Minnie in 77, and Bertha in 79. The family then moved to Rockford and they had 11 children in all. Poor Thekla dies of consumption at 46.
WW lives on working up until his death at age 61. In the end he was a "teamster" and lived with his youngest sons and different daughters-in-law over the years at a rented place on Woodland Avenue.
