Bio
Thomas was the youngest of five children born to William and Anne Ford in Fownhope England. William was a builder of homes and taught his youngest son the trade. Thomas worked as a Carpenter for his father by the time he was 17. Something called him, however, to leave the safety of the small town and family to board a ship bound for America, apparently all on his own when he was just 24. He emigrated to the United States in 1888 and became a naturalized citizen on October 12, 1894. By then he had fallen in love with a beautiful lady named Edith Woodworth, and the two were married on Christmas Eve of 1895. In the meantime he had become a successful building contractor.

There are no records about Thomas' education, but I believe he was very smart indeed and passed this trait on to his sons. His youngest son Harold graduated from MIT, and the wicked smart middle child became a dermatologist. The oldest son Newell followed Thomas into the family business and became a successful building contractor.

A smaller man, Thomas was was only 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had hazel eyes. He traveled back and forth to England frequently, and once returned to the United States on the Lusitania (October 10, 1913), only a year and a half before the liner was sunk by a German submarine.

Thomas died late in 1928 from injuries suffered in a large subway accident in New York city just 10 days earlier. His wife Edith used the settlement money to build a library in his honor in Western Springs, IL, where they had lived for many years.
