Bio
Varnum Bates Palmer was the son of Revolutionary War patriot Gilbert Palmer. He is also the Great Grandfather of Edith (Woodworth) Ford!

Varnum was born in the Connecticut town of Stoneington that his great, great grandfather Moses Palmer helped establish. After the war, his father moved the family all the way out to the land of the Western Reserve (northeast Ohio) which was once part of Connecticut. Many soldiers received land grants here as compensation for their efforts.

On February 24th, 1822 in Williamsfield Ohio, Varnum married Persis Meacham (also of Connecticut) and they started a family. They had three daughters: Anna in 1823, Emeline in 1828 and finally Rubie in 1836. Varnum became a farmer and by 1850 he is supporting a good sized household. Little Rubie is now 14 and Anna is a married woman but living at home with her two young sons George and William. Also living with Vernon is a 12 year old girl named Urana Bartholomew and a 35 year old farm worker names Joel Meacham

So that is really about all we know about Varnum!
