Bio
Mary, the younger sister to William Ford, is Aunt of T.A. Ford and Great Aunt of WKFI. She was born in Singleton, Sussex County on July 2, 1837.
Sometime between the age of 14 and 24, Mary becomes a servant at the The Park Manor in Brighton. She and the other servants live in the Mansion and work for a rich old Lawyer. He has a Page, Butler, Ladies Maid, Kitchen Maid, Cook and poor Mary is the Laundry Maid. As a single woman of her age, this is not the worst position in the world. At least she lives in a nice, clean Mansion.
As luck would have it, when Mary is 28 she finally meets a man named Jacob Edwards who is 4 years younger than her. They fall in love and before you know it, Mary is pregnant. The two are married on August 26, 1865. Their first child is born just a few months later on November 5, 1865 and they name him Jacob.
Four years later, the couple welcome another son named Aaron. Then they have three daughters named Eliza, Mary and Clara. Jacob supports the family working as a "Drainer". This work would have been that of a skilled laborer working on the Sanitary system.
Beyond this, records are limited, and confusing. Mary Ford is a rather common name at the time! We do believe that Jacob dies before Mary. Most likely, Mary dies in January of 1893.
