Bio
Here is the sad story of Ruth Henderson, Great Aunt of Dr. WFF. She was born in Iowa in March of 1893, the second child of Martha Bort and Charles Henderson. Her sister Fannie is three years older.
When Ruth is just 5 her father dies, but census records indicate that they own their home outright. Nevertheless, by 1902 Ruth's mother is married to a new man named Cecil Dent and living in Illinois. Her older sister runs off with a nice German boy named Frank Schrom, has a baby at 15, and then marries him.
What we can't really tell is just what happened to poor Ruth. We know that her mother has started a new life with Cecil and had a son named Phyler in 1903 and another in 1905. We also know that poor Ruth is stuck back in Iowa in 1910, living with her mother's aging parents.
Was she left there on purpose? Did she run away from Rockford to go home to Iowa to be with her grandparents? Did she get fed up with the madness in Illinois and beg to leave? We may never know, but count on this: "she who cares" will continue searching the records until we find Ruth, what happened to her, and just how she died in 1961!
