Nellie married Martin Kjellgren the day after Christmas, 1903 in their hometown of Rockford, Illinois. They were both 25 years old. Martin was of Scandinavian decent and very likely a dashing young man. As the newlyweds were both born in Rockford, in the same year, perhaps they were high-school sweethearts?
Nellie and Martin had at least three children, Robert, Lola, and Stanley. Son Robert becomes a very successful businessman and Vice President of a local bank. He married Dorothy Schrom, whose father was a respected restaurateur in Rockford. Nellie's heart was likely broken with the death of her son Robert (of liver cancer) at the young age of 37.
