Bio
Frank is Aunt Ray's father, grandfather to the great Sarah Ford and her sibs Pete, Andy, Liz, and Kathryn.

Frank was the youngest of four children born to Frank Beeman Barclay Sr and Frances Bertha Barclay, who went by the name Bertha. Frank's oldest sister Vivian was born in Mississippi before 1900 and brother William in Tennessee a couple of years later. A few years later sister Kathryn was born. Then back in Mississippi Frank was born.

The reason Frank and his siblings births occurred in different states likely coincided with where their father was stationed at the time. He was a Master Mechanic with the Illinois Central Railroad which was once the longest railroad in the world and ran from Chicago to New Orleans through Memphis and parts of Mississippi. Abraham Lincoln once lobbied for its charter in 1851 and then served as a lawyer for the Railroad. The Canadian National Railroad acquired it in 1998 for 2.8 Billion dollars.

By 1920 the family is living back in Memphis at 1090 Court Avenue. Vivian goes off to college and before long Frank follows in her footsteps and attends the University of the South in Sewanee TN. The college is pretty far away from Memphis, close to Chattanooga at the opposite end of the long state. Frank joins a fraternity and the "Junior Germans" who arrange dances on campus.

Perhaps because of too many dances, Frank does not return to Sewanee in the fall of 1927. (Vivian only completed one year too.) He moves into his parents' apartment in Memphis at 115 N Montgomery Road. Dad is now the Superintendent of the Machinists with the Railroad. Frank Jr. finds work with the Ford Motor Company. A move is in the works as Frank Sr. is promoted to General Supervisor and needs to move to Chicago.

Frank Jr. stays in Memphis and is now a Shipper with Ford. The 1930 Census shows that Miss Frances Marion Owens was a Stenographer for General Motors Acceptance Corp which provided financing to all kinds of dealerships across the country. Somehow, the Stenographer from GM met the Shipper at Ford and it was love that blossomed as the couple was married in Haywood TN, October 20, 1932.

By 1935, Frank and Frances have moved to Granite City where Aunt Ray was born. Frank was a Sales Manager in the Coatings Industry in 1940. His sister Vivian, now 40 and divorced, has returned home with her son Edwin Mormon age 16. She worked as a secretary for the Methodist Church. Kathryn, 33, graduated from college and became an Investigator for the Welfare Agency! She also lives back at home.

Aunt Ray's brother Robert was born sometime later. And now our search begins. Little is known of Frank after this time. Records show he died in Illinois, but was buried back home in Tennessee. My search for info continues....
