Bio
Gladys Margaret Schrom was born to unwed teenage parents -- Frank Schrom (age 19) and Fannie Henderson (age 16) -- who were married a month after her birth.

Gladys' mother has been described as a "crass woman" who helped her husband run a food stand for income. Gladys later had a sister named Dorothy and a younger brother named Frank, who some said had a mild learning disability. Gladys writes on the 1930 census that she is a teacher, but she never attended college. Nevertheless she apparently taught both Grade School and Junior High before getting married. She was close to her father, and was even pictured and mentioned in a newspaper article describing the Schrom Restaurant business.

Sometime in 1932 she married the handsome Doctor William Ford and they had three boys. The Doctor divorces her sometime before 1961. After the divorce Gladys again turned to teaching, this time in the English Department at Auburn High School. A few years later she dies from esophageal cancer. As a tribute to her, Auburn dedicated the 1968 Excalibur Yearbook to her memory.
